Healthy Bear Cub Euthanized

Tennessee rescue org says they were never contacted

Virginia authorities are facing major backlash after they euthanized a found-pound bear cub.

A couple found the baby bear alongside Route 460 in Giles County, Va.

They said the bear was whimpering and then fell asleep. They contacted the game warden, hoping to find the bear a home -- but officials say they killed the cub because it was motherless and they couldn't find anyone to rehabilitate it back into the wild.

A Tennessee organization that has plenty of room says it was never contacted.

Virginia authorities say they didn't feel comfortable giving the bear to the group -- because of a change in leadership.

From all accounts, the bear was healthy and wasn't injured.
