Haunting Season Begins at Virginia Estate

Paxton Mansion Begins New Season

Paxton Manor in Leesburg is getting terrifying... and it's not because of high real estate prices.

The estate, a 140-year-old mansion on the grounds of Paxton Campus, has launched its award-winning haunted house tour for a sixth year. During Shocktober, the mansion opens its doors and guides the brave through its ghoulish basement caverns... otherwise known as the Haunted Well of Souls.

Shocktober offers a terrifying back story for the caverns: An exiled family was forced to move into the caverns, where they lived for many years. "Things went well for The Carver family and they thrived and multiplied," the website says. "Though as time went on things began to go wrong..."

Since those caverns are apparently now known as the Haunted Well of Souls, you can draw your own conclusions.

Paxton Manor is located at 601 Catoctin Circle NE in Leesburg. Shocktober runs Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. through October.

The event raises money to benefit Paxton Campus, which provides services for people with disabilities and their families.
