Hate Crimes at Maryland School Investigated

One person in custody

One person is in custody tonight in connection with a vandalism case at the Washington Waldorf School in Bethesda, Md.

Montgomery County police said there have been eight vandalisms at the school between October and January. Someone sprayed graffiti on school grounds and broke a window. Some fires have also been set.

The graffiti expressed racial epithets and swastikas, officers said, and they are now investigating the incidents as hate crimes. The name of the person in custody has not been released.

The Washington Waldorf School off of Sangamore Road has an enrollment of about 265 students from pre-K to high school.
