Police: No Threat After Report of Active Shooter at Harford Community College

Harford County, Maryland, police believe there is no threat to the community no shots were fired after reports of an active shooter at Harford Community College.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office said police were called about a possible shooter about 2 p.m. Saturday. A witness reported someone holding a possible gun and others reported seeing a person with a mask, police said.

Harford Community College warned people away from its campus for what it called an “active shooter situation.”

The sheriff's office recommended people stay away from the area.

Police did not find anyone matching their description and determined no shots were fired.

Deputies are still going through all of the buildings on the campus and using K-9s to clear the buildings. There are about 50 officers at the scene, Major William Davis said. Davis said police will stay at the campus all day.

A News4 producer at the scene said the police appeared calm and families with children were hanging out at a parking lot at the college.

The post on the school’s Facebook page said the location was the Harford Sports Complex. The alert went out just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The school told everyone to avoid the area or shelter in place. The school is located in Bel Air, Maryland, north of Baltimore.
