Handcuffed Man Shot by District Heights Officer, Say Prince George's Police

Pr. George's Police: Kalvin Kyle in handcuffs when shot by a District Heights officer

Prince George's County Police are backing up part of the NAACP's account regarding a police-involved shooting that happened Thursday afternoon.

They confirm Kalvin Kyle was in handcuffs when he was shot by a District Heights officer along Foster Street near Malboro Pike.

Kyle had been arrested on suspicion of trying to steal a motorcycle. He was shot in the back.

A witness who claims she saw the shooting told NBC4's Shomari Stone that the officer "was not forced to fire at that boy."

The District Heights officer who shot him is on administrative leave. He has been identified only as an eight-year veteran of the force.

Kyle remains in at the Prince George's Hospital Center. There is a warrant for his arrest upon his release from the hospital.

Prince George's County Police have taken over the investigation to avoid a conflict of interest.
