Hagerstown Fire Department Borrows Fire Truck From Collector

Department has borrowed a 1979 ladder truck from a collector while two of its trucks are out for repairs

The Hagerstown Fire Department has borrowed a ladder truck from a Pennsylvania fire equipment collector while two of its trucks are out for repairs.

Fire Capt. Russell Diaello tells The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown that the department has been relying on neighboring volunteer fire companies to assist, but that's not a long-term solution.

The department asked William Adams of Willow Hill, Pa., a fire equipment collector, if it could rent a truck from his collection.

Adams, assistant fire chief in Metal Township, Fannesttsburg, Pa., said he would never ask a fire service for payment. He said they department could use one of his trucks, a 1979 Seagrave with a 100-foot ladder, for as long as it was needed.

The Hagerstown department's two out-of-service trucks are being fixed by city mechanics.
