Better take a head count before you get on the HOV lanes in Northern Virginia Tuesday.
Police are cracking down on HOV violators -- it is the fifth such effort in recent months.
Officers will be out on I-66, 395 and 95 until 9:30 a.m.
If you get caught, get ready to pull out your checkbook. There is a $125 fine for the first offense, a $250 fine for a second violation and a $500 fine for a third. Get caught a fourth time and it will cost you $1,000.
