Police in the Capitol Area are keeping a close eye on the High Occupancy Vehicle lanes today. They are cracking down on violators in Maryland and Virginia.
They'll be watching HOV lanes on Interstates 66, 95, 395 and 270, the Dulles Toll Road and Route 50 during the morning and evening rush hours.
Violators in Maryland face a $90 fine and one point on their driving records, and in Virginia repeat offenders face fines as high as $1,000 and three points on their records.
