HOT Lanes Take a Toll on Tysons

Weekend roadwork will create delays

Getting around near Tysons Corner could prove to be extra difficult this weekend.

Construction crews will shut down all lanes of Chain Bridge Road at the Beltway starting Friday night. It's part of the high-occupancy toll lanes project.

Starting at 9:30 p.m., the following entrances and exits will be closed off to traffic:

  • I-495 North to Route 123 South
  • I-495 South to Route 123 North
  • Route 123 South to I-495 South
  • Route 123 North to I-495 North

VDOT officials said drivers should consider using Georgetown Pike and Route 7 as alternate routes. They said police officers will be on hand to direct traffic around the construction area.

Crews said the work should be complete by 5 a.m. Monday, just in time for the morning rush.

"By doing it all in one big chunk, we save the public a lot of night work that we would have to be back here for... about four to seven weeks," said Steven Titunik, of VDOT.

Officials said the HOT lanes project is on track to be completed by early 2013.
