Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting Steps from D.C. School

Within just a few days, police have made an arrest in a fatal shooting just steps from an elementary school.

The shooting was reported just after 3:30 p.m. last Friday in the 600 block of Morris Place NE. The victim, 29-year-old Andre P. Joyner of Fort Washington, was found unconscious and not breathing. He was later pronounced dead.

Monday, police arrested 29-year-old James Walter Yates III of southeast D.C. in connection with Joyner's death and charged him with murder while armed. 

The shooting was around the corner from Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School.
