Group Donates Alternative-Fuel Lawn Mowers for National Mall

National Mall staff also has started using two electric cars and installed four electric car charging stations

A propane energy group is donating new alternative-fuel lawn mowers to the National Mall and Memorial Parks.

The Propane Education and Research Council donated six new propane-fueled mowers to the National Park Service on Monday. The group says the mowers will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and will replace diesel-fueled mowers.

The donation amounts to about $70,000 in equipment.

In a statement, National Mall Superintendent Bob Vogel said the propane mowers will help the park meets its sustainability goals.

The National Mall staff also has started using two electric cars and installed four electric car charging stations under a grant from the Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition.
