D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray refuses to say if he will support Democratic nominee for mayor Muriel Bowser in the general election. Bowser is not saying if she will keep Police Chief Cathy Lanier or Schools Chancellor Kaya Handerson if elected. As News4's Mark Segraves reports, the two had an awkward meeting Friday at the party's unity breakfast. (Published Friday, Apr 4, 2014)

Mayor Vincent Gray took a moment to congratulate D.C. Councilmember Muriel Bowser on her win in the mayoral primary at a breakfast intended to promote party unity.

Bowser defeated Gray and six others in Tuesday's mayoral primary. Following her victory, she called for the party to come together ahead of the general election, in which she'll face independent Councilmember David Catania.

Gray took the stage and publicly congratulated Bowser on her win but left the stage without embracing her. He went back and hugged her after he was questioned by reporters.

Gray still has not indicated whether he'll support Bowser in the general election, but he said he will not support Cantania.

Prior to the breakfast, Gray had not personally congratulated Bowser. The two have long had a testy relationship. Bowser called on Gray to resign in 2012 following revelations of an illegal "shadow campaign'' that helped him get elected in 2010.

The city Democratic State Committee's "unity breakfast'' will be held Friday morning at a church in southeast Washington.
