‘My Heart Is Devastated': Godmother of 19-Year-Old Woman Killed Mourns, Calls on Killer to Go to Police

Family members say a 19-year-old woman shot and killed in Southeast D.C. would do anything for anyone and they're calling for whoever killed her to step forward.

Unique Davis was in front of her home on Tubman Road SE about 7 p.m. Saturday, when witnesses said they saw a hail of gunfire. Unique was pronounced dead at the scene.

"She was innocent. She didn't do nothing to nobody. She didn't deserve it," said Davis' godmother, Devinah Davis. "They took more than just her. They took everybody that love her."

Two others who were with her were also shot. They were identified as Dominique Davis, Unique's sister, and Tavaughn Goldsmith.

Police are still searching for the suspect.

"Do what you need to do and turn yourselves in cause you was wrong for it," Devinah Davis said regarding the person who shot them.

Family and friends lit candles at Unique's doorstep Sunday night to remember her. Just days before, they had celebrated her 19th birthday.

"Last night I laid on my bed, I couldn't breath. I prayed for God to take me and just replace her back," Devinah Davis said. "I got kids of my own, but that little girl meant the world to me and nobody can understand that. My heart is devastated. I'm tore up. It's just too much."

Relatives say Unique graduated from Anacostia High School last year. She was getting ready to start working at FedEx Field and had plans to attend college.
