A massive Earth Day concert and rally will take over the National Mall in April, bringing major acts to D.C., including No Doubt, Usher, Fall Out Boy, Mary J. Blige and more -- and yes, it's all free.
The Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day event will mark the 45th anniversary of Earth Day. Planners say the rally will be a significant portion of the event, with The Global Poverty Project and the Earth Day Network cohosting to bring awareness to global preservation and poverty.
Soledad O'Brien and will.i.am will host.
Other musical guests include Train and My Morning Jacket, with Common and D'Banj on tap as special guests.
The event is set for Saturday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the grounds of the Washington Monument.
If you go, you'll likely have a lot of company. You probably remember the huge crowds at last fall's Concert for Valor at the National Mall. Since this event's taking place at the height of cherry blossom season, it's safe to say you'll encounter a huge crowd.
Our transportation recommendations: Go early (of course), and if you take Metro, just say no to the Smithsonian station. Instead, get off at a slightly farther station (such as National Archives, Federal Triangle or even Metro Center) and walk the rest of the way. You can also consider taking Metrobus or a Circulator bus, or using Capital Bikeshare.
