The body of an 11-year-old girl who apparently drowned in the Wicomico River has been found.

The girl's body was found along the shore near Newburg in Charles County, Maryland. She was identified as Faith Janee Lee of Chaptico, Maryland.

She had been missing since she and two adults went for a swim Friday afternoon in the Wicomico River in Chaptico, Maryland. It appeared that she had been pulled under by a strong current, police said.

The adults made it to shore and called police after the girl disappeared while swimming around 2 p.m.

A long search followed, with rescuers from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police, the fire department and rescue squad personnel.
