A Gaithersburg parking garage was evacuated near the scene of a gas leak Wednesday afternoon.
Montgomery County Fire crews and HazMat teams were called to the scene of the leak in the 9700 block of Fields Road, where a backhoe struck an eight-inch line near a parking garage.
The leak is now under control, said Montgomery County Fire spokesperson Pete Piringer late Wednesday afternoon.
Workers at the open-air garage evacuated shortly before 2 p.m. Nearby buildings were also being checked.
Fields Road was closed between Rio Boulevard and Washingtonian Boulevard.
