Funeral to Be Held for Homeless Baby Girl After Online Fundraiser Surpasses Goal

A homeless infant girl will finally be laid to rest more than a month after her death.

The 4-week-old baby, named Ida, died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome on Aug. 4 at a hotel on New York Avenue, where the city houses homeless families. The child's family could not afford to give her a proper burial.

Earline Budd, an activist who has raised awareness for transgender and minority causes in the past, set up a GoFundMe campaign to help Ida's family pay for a funeral and private burial.

Just a day after News4 and NBCWashington.com told baby Ida's story, the online campaign surpassed its goal of $1,750 and has since raised $2,950.

A "celebration of life" service for Ida will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21 at the Metropolitan Community Church of Washington D.C. in Northwest.
