Funeral Thursday for Baby Whose Brother Is Charged in Her Death

Baby's 14-year-old brother held without bond, charged with first-degree murder

A Maryland family will hold a funeral Thursday for the baby girl whom police say was killed by her 14-year-old brother last week at their home in White Oak.

The baby's mother left 7-month-old Larissa Yanes in her brother's care while she worked the night shift last Thursday. According to court documents, the brother beat Larissa and then suffocated her when she wouldn't stop crying.

The next morning, their mother couldn't awake baby Larissa. She was pronounced dead at Holy Cross Hospital shortly before 7 a.m.

On Wednesday night, her family held a memorial service. Her funeral was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Camillus Catholic Church in Silver Spring.

Larissa's brother is currently charged as an adult with murder. A hearing Feb. 22 will determine whether to charge him as a juvenile instead.

On Monday, Larissa's father told News4's Erika Gonzalez that he is devastated by her death. "It's like the world is ending," he said.
