Fundraiser Held for Vegas Shooting Victim for Her 28th Birthday

Days before her 28th birthday, a fundraiser is being held Thursday for the Maryland woman who was shot in the head during the Las Vegas massacre nearly two months ago.

Family and friends of Tina Frost hope to raise money for her family's expenses before Frost turns 28 on Saturday. On Tuesday, Frost left Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and moved to a rehabilitation center, her mother said.

The Greene Turtle Sports Bar and Grille location in Gambrills, Maryland, will donate 20 percent of the day’s sales to the “Kristina Frost Trust Fund." Frost’s family is set to hold a silent auction from 7 to 9 p.m.

A GoFundMe page for Frost has raised more than $606,000 as of Thursday afternoon, more than 12 times than the original goal of $50,000.

Earlier this month, Frost took her first steps after the massacre.

Her father, Rich Frost, told News4 she was making progress every day.

“Milestones would be talking, walking and talking and understanding things. And some of these are happening, slowly but surely,” he said.

On Oct. 1, Tina Frost was among the hundreds of people who were shot at a concert in Las Vegas. The attack was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, leaving 58 people dead and injuring more than 500.

Frost’s boyfriend carried her from the scene of the shooting to a truck. The truck’s driver rushed Frost to a hospital, where doctors had to remove a bullet, which was lodged into her right eye, to save her life.

Since the shooting, Frost has been trying to redevelop her motor skills -- practicing throwing and kicking a rubber ball, baking cookies and painting her eye patch.

Also, she has started to speak. Doctors don’t expect her to remember the shooting.

Her recovery will involve physical and cognitive therapy and facial reconstruction surgery.

“We appreciate everything that everybody’s doing for her. Pulling for her and all the prayers that have come. It’s helping. She’s made great progress. She’s making progress every hour,” Rich Frost said at a fundraiser for his daughter in October.
