Freight Train Spills Fuel at MARC Riverdale Station

A CSX train fuel spill briefly shut down a stretch of tracks in Riverdale, Md., but no MARC train delays were expected.

HAZMAT crews were called to the MARC Riverdale station early Thursday morning for a fuel spill on the tracks. According to CSX spokeswoman Kristin Seay, one of two locomotives on a CSX train traveling from Charleston, S.C. to Vultan, Va., leaked an unknown amount of fuel onto the tracks. Seay said the train was transporting ballast, stone and rock.

Both MARC and Amtrak trains run on the line.

The tracks re-opened and normal train operations resumed around 4:30 a.m.
