Saturday night, daylights savings time means turning back your clock.

But this time of year, there is another safety task you should conduct in your home - changing the battery in your smoke alarm.

Prince George's County fire chief Marc Bashoor says the presence of a working fire alarm in a home increases the chance of survival by 50 percent.

If you don't have functioning fire alarms in your home, local governments are distributing them for free.

In Prince George's County, residents can obtain a free smoke alarm by calling the hotline: 301-864-SAFE (7233).  If you need help installing the fire alarm, call your local fire house, or the number: 301-583-2200.

The District of Columbia is also distributing free fire alarms to residents.  The number to call to get one there is: 202-673-3331.
