Dental Clinic to Provide Free Services in Maryland This Weekend

The two-day clinic started Friday morning

A free dental clinic will help hundreds of "underserved, uninsured, and under-insured" people on Friday and Saturday in Maryland.

Dentists and dental hygienists will provide services ranging from teeth cleanings to root canals to as many as 800 adults.

More than 200 volunteers will perform dental procedures Friday and Saturday at North Point High School at 2500 Davis Road in Waldorf. The hours are 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

The event is hosted by Southern Maryland Mission of Mercy and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington.

Patients, who must be age 19 and older, are encouraged to get in line early.

"You don’t realize how many people are living in pain every single day without a way to pay for dental care," Deacon Jim Nalls of Catholic Charities said in a statement.

"What we’ll be accomplishing on Friday and Saturday is vital, but it’s only a start to the need all around us," he continued.

No work related to dentures will be provided at the dental clinic. Prescriptions written by the dentists will be available.

The clinic cannot provide dental care to people age 18 and younger, and children will not be allowed to enter the building.

Patient Christina Sita, who goes to school and works full time, said she could not afford much-needed dental services without help from the clinic.

"I couldn't be more grateful for that," she said.
