Frederick Co. Commissioner Seeks Secession From Maryland

A Frederick County, Md., commissioner is proposing that the county secede from Maryland and become a separate state.

Republican Lennie Thompson expressed dissatisfaction with the state's fiscal policies in announcing the proposed resolution Friday.

Thompson said that when voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury, democracy is doomed.

The resolution is on the agenda for the commissioners' work session Tuesday in Frederick.
