Fourth Grader Wants to Build Bridges as Junior Mayor

A fourth grader will debut as Gaithersburg's junior mayor this week.

Emma Leath will join Mayor Sidney Katz for the State of the City address Thursday. Next month, Emma will be sworn in as the official junior mayor at a City Council meeting.

She won the job in an "If I were Mayor" contest out of more than 200 submissions.

When asked to name a big problem the people of Gathersburg face, Emma chose pedestrian safety. She suggests pedestrian-only bridges and tunnels as a possible solution.
