Army sergeant killed by insurgent attack

A soldier based in northern Virginia was killed in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Zainah Creamer was killed Jan. 12 in the Kandahar province, after her unit was attacked by a group of insurgents.

Creamer had been in the army for three years and was serving on her third deployment. She was most recently serving as a Military Work Dog Handler.

Officials with the Department of Defense say Creamer was a member of the 212th Military Police Detachment at Fort Belvoir.

Creamer and her work dog, Joffa, left for Afghanistan in October. They were part of the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment. Joffa was not hurt in the attack.

Sgt. Zainah Creamer is from Texarkana, Texas. She was 28 years old.
