Former D.C. First Lady Takes Fenty To Court

Masters Barry says this was all a misunderstanding

Cora Masters Barry, the estranged wife of former mayor and current councilman Marion Barry, is working hard to keep control of a tennis center she operates in Southeast D.C.

She runs the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center through her non-profit group, the Recreation Wish List Committee. Last month, Mayor Adrian Fenty's office issued Masters Barry an eviction notice because her group didn't renew their corporate registration.

Masters Barry says this was all a misunderstanding that has been cleared up. "It happens all the time," she said. "It's routine in the District of Columbia. It's only a matter if you want to make it out of something."

Masters Barry will appear in court Tuesday to seek an injunction against Mayor Fenty that would allow her to stay at the Tennis Center.

The Mayor's office wouldn't comment, citing ongoing legal matters.
