Former Va. Police Chief Sentenced to 6 Years

A former police chief in southwestern Virginia was sentenced to six years in prison for dealing methamphetamines, cocaine and other drugs.

Michael Dean Roberts of Saltville pleaded guilty to a single drug-distribution count in July. The former Marion police chief was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Abingdon.

Authorities said Roberts sold at least 7,331 hydrocodone pills, 365 grams of methamphetamine, and small amounts of cocaine and oxycodone from 2006 through June. A confidential informant bought hydrocodone pills from the police chief on three separate occasions in May and June.

A federal prosecutor says some of the drugs came from the police department's evidence room.
