Former Prince William Teacher Indicted on Child Porn Charges

A former Prince William County middle-school teacher has been indicted on charges of possessing child pornography and soliciting a minor to send him sexually explicit material.

Tommy Stancill was arrested in the summer of 2014 at a Loudoun County jail. According to investigators, Stancill allegedly sent erotic pictures of himself to a girl who was younger than 15 at the time.

A Loudoun County spokesman said the investigation was launched when the father of the girl noticed inappropriate pictures and text messages on his daughter’s cell phone. Investigators allege that Stancill had developed a relationship with the teen.

Stancill, 32, taught 8th-grade social studies during the 2013-2014 school year at Benton Middle School in Prince William County; however, the alleged victim was not a student at the school.

Stancill only taught at the school for one year. He told News4's Julie Carey that he left teaching to make more money as a car salesman. He added that this was before he learned he was under investigation.

Stancill pleaded not guilty to the charges, maintaining that he is innocent.

Benton Middle School said administrators are just learning of the charges and have sent automated calls out to parents notifying them about the nature of the charges, so that they will not be alarmed.
