Former Prince George's Investigator Pleads Guilty to Sex Charge

A former top investigator for the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Office pleaded guilty Friday to a first-degree sex offense.

James Artis is accused of fondling a female co-worker in June.  His accuser said he pinned her down in an office at the courthouse in Upper Marlboro.

Artis previously told The Washington Post he didn’t do anything wrong. He admitted to touching the woman but said it was only on her shoulder. He said he was trying to comfort her because she was sad that day.

Artis was fired after charges were filed.

The case is being handled in Montgomery County to avoid a conflict of interest.
