Former Middle School Principal Found Not Guilty of Hitting Student

A former principal of a Prince George's County middle school has been found not guilty of assaulting a student.

Dwight Jefferson, former principal of Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School in Laurel, Maryland, had been accused of punching a 13-year-old student in the stomach and face last September.

Jefferson was found not guilty of the charges Thursday, said the office of Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks.

Jefferson was removed from his role as principal shortly after the incident, said a Prince George's County Public Schools spokesman.

At the time, spokesman Max A. Pugh Jr. said Jefferson's future with the school system would be determined after legal proceedings concluded.
