Former Alexandria Sheriff James Dunning has died at 62.
Dunning retired from the Alexandria police force after the high-proile murder of his wife in 2003. The case has never been solved and an investigation remains open.
An autopsy will be performed on James Dunning to determine a cause of death. Police say he appeared to have died in his sleep at his Hilton Head home this morning.
