Firefighter's Helmet Camera Captures Rescue of 2 Dogs

Fairfax County Firefighter Ben Sisson wears a helmet camera so that he can review footage of his calls and improve his skills.

But Sunday, Sisson's camera caught something even more important: Sisson and his partner rescuing two therapy dogs trapped inside a burning house in Springfield.

"This time it was a dog, maybe next time it's gonna be a person," Sisson said. "You just don't know."

His helmet camera footage shows the dangerous scene. Yellow flames leap from an upstairs room and thick smoke chokes the stairway.

The fire spreads quickly and firefighters are forced back -- with the two dogs. Sisson and his fellow firefighters were ordered to evacuate just after the rescue.

One dog could not be rescued and died in the fire. No humans were injured.

Sisson says the rescue is just part of the job -- as is the helmet camera. He says he learned from his dad, who was also a firefighter, the importance of being the best.

Meanwhile, the two dogs are recovering with a neighbor.
