Firefighters are expected to put out the fires, not start them, but that wasn't the case with 42-year old Michael D. Murphy of Huntington, Md.

A member of the Prince George’s County Fire Department since 1989, Murphy is charged with starting a fire at a building in the 2500 block of University Boulevard in Adelphi.  The Nov. 1 fire caused $1,000 in damages.

Murphy was arrested Thursday and faces felony arson charges. He's being held on $150,000 bond at the Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro.

Immediately after his arrest, Murphy was placed on leave without pay.
