Fire at YWCA Displaces Residents Due to Water Damage

One person was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation following a fire at a YWCA building in Northwest D.C. early Monday.

The blaze began about 5:15 a.m. at the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA at 901 Rhode Island Ave NW, and was contained to one room.

It was extinguished by the sprinkler system. Residents will not be allowed back inside for the time being due to water damage.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
