Fire Truck Accident in NW D.C.

Vehicle involved in crash at L Street

A fire truck was involved in a traffic accident on Monday morning.

The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. at 18th and L Street NW.

The fire truck, Engine No. 1 from the West End fire house, collided with a small SUV at the intersection.  The impact smashed two doors on the driver's side of the SUV.

The force of the impact left one of the SUV's doors stuck on the front bumper of the fire truck.

The  truck had been on the way to a fire on the 1700 block of Rhode Island Avenue.  According to a fire spokesperson, the fire truck had sirens and emergency lights on at the time of the accident.

News4's Tracee Wilkins reports the SUV driver was transported in stable condition following the crash.  Two of the four firefighter on board the fire truck also sustained minor injuries, and were brought to the hospital for treatment as well.

The exact cause of the accident and who is at fault is still under investigation.
