Fire Damages Three Downtown Silver Spring Restaurants

A two-alarm fire damaged three downtown Silver Spring restaurants early Thursday. Fire officials say the cause was most likely electrical in nature.

More than 100 firefighters were called to the scene in the 8400 block of Georgia Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

The Bombay Gaylord restaurant suffered the most damage; its dining area was gutted by the powerful fire, News4's Megan McGrath reported.

Two other restaurants also suffered damage: the Quarry House Tavern, located on the basement level of the building that houses Bombay Gaylord, and the Mandarin Chinese restaurant next door.

The official cause of the fire has not been determined, but Pete Piringer, a spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire Department, says the fire was probably electrical in nature.

Piringer says one firefighter suffered a minor burn. The fire also displaced several residents.
