Fighting for Fido: Group Wants Limits on Tethering Dogs in Fairfax City

Asking Fairfax City to Pass New Law

The city of Fairfax may join nearby jurisdictions to improve the treatment of dogs.

At Tuesday night's council meeting, residents plan to speak about limiting the time a dog can be tethered outside.

Virginia laws do not set any limits, so communities including Arlington and Alexandria have moved on their own.

At Tuesday's meeting, council will decide what, if anything, to do about the issue.

Tim Parmly, a veterinary technician and animal advocate, said he hopes to set limits on tethering animals in every jurisdiction in northern Virginia.
