NASA Jets Fly Over Downtown D.C. Thursday Morning

Flights are part of a series of tests conducted by NASA and the FAA

It's a bird, it's a plane..no it's really a jet!

Between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Thursday morning, NASA and the FAA conducted a series of tests using fighter jets to prepare for the arrival of the Space Shuttle Discovery.

Both agencies are working together to bring the shuttle from Florida to Dulles Airport.

The two T-38 jets flew over the city to test a path for the Space Shuttle Discovery and to ensure it can pass over the monuments safely.

The jets also took photographs of the District for possible alternative shuttle routes.

Discovery is set to arrive April 17, when it will go to the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum.
