Fifth Alarm Called at Baltimore Fire

More than 100 firefighters battle industrial building blaze

More than 100 firefighters battled a huge fire at a Baltimore industrial building that left a plume of smoke across the city's skyline Sunday morning.

No injuries have been reported at the five-alarm fire, and there are no reports that anyone was inside, city fire spokesman Kevin Cartwright said.

The three-story building in the 1700 block of Union Avenue has some offices inside, but Cartwright said several are vacant.

Interstate 83, Baltimore's main north-south artery, was closed as fire trucks were stationed on the elevated highway to douse the building with water from above.

Authorities closed several roads in the area and urged motorists to avoid traveling through the neighborhood.
