A canvasser for D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty's reelection campaign is facing drug charges after allegedly trying to sell crack to an undercover police officer.

Demetrius Eccles was arrested Friday at Georgia Avenue and Piney Branch Road in Northwest.

"The Fenty campaign does not condone this alleged behavior," said Fenty spokeswoman Helen Hare. "Our canvassers are constantly supervised. Mr. Eccles was not working at the time of his arrest and is no longer on the campaign."

Eccles had started working for the campaign this month.
