A 17-year-old student was stabbed as she tried to break up a fight after a basketball game at Northwood High School in Silver Spring.

Police are seeking two female suspects after a 17-year-old girl was stabbed repeatedly in the parking lot of Northwood High School in Montgomery County.

The incident happened Tuesday night after a basketball game against Kennedy High School, for which the victim's brother plays.

According to investigators, a fight broke out, and police responded about 9 p.m.

The victim, a student at Montgomery Blair High School, told police that after the basketball game, the fight started inside the school. She told police that she stepped in to break things up, which is when she was injured.

Police said they believe six or seven teens were involved in the fight that led to the stabbing.  Investigators said the victim did not know the person who stabbed her, believed to be a female.

Law enforcement is looking for two females believed to be Kennedy students in connection with the stabbing.

The victim was stabbed several times and was transported in serious condition. She is expected to recover.

On Wednesday, extra counselors were on hand at Northwood High School to help students if necessary.
