Father Charged With Murder of 5-Month-Old Son

A Germantown man is charged with the murder of his 5-month-old son after he told police he shook the baby when he wouldn't stop crying.

The baby, Hudson Ahimbisibwe, died June 23. His father, 22-year-old Austin Ahimbisibwe, called 911 early that day and said he was performing CPR on his son because the baby wasn't breathing, Montgomery County Police said.

Hudson was taken to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where he was pronounced dead.

Hudson's mother left him in Ahimbisibwe's care while she was at work, police said. She told investigators Hudson was in good health when she left him with Ahimbisibwe.

A medical examiner ruled his death a homicide caused by head, neck and upper body trauma, police said.

On Friday, detectives interviewed Ahimbisibwe and he admitted he became frustrated when Hudson would not stop crying, police said. He told detectives he grabbed Hudson by the neck and face, covered the baby's mouth with his hand and shook him to stop him from crying, police said.

Ahimbisibwe is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree child abuse resulting in death.

He is being held on a $2.5 million bond. He appeared before a judge Monday asking for his bond to be reduced, but the judge denied his request.

Prosecutors said they hope that bond amount will send a message that skaking or hitting babies won't be tolerated in Montgomery County.
