Fatal Pedestrian Accident Near Germantown Road

I270 traffic affected

A fatal pedestrian accident took place near a major roadway in Montgomery County on Wednesday morning.

State Police confirmed that a pedestrian was struck and killed on I-270 near Germantown Road.  The exit 15 ramp from I-270 to Germantown Road/MD 118 was shut down for the investigation.

News4's Tracee Wilkins reports a man tried to cross the 8 lanes of I-270 before daylight, around 6:45 a.m.  Police said a tractor trailer truck struck the man in the southbound lanes and killed him.  The driver, who remained on the scene, will not be charged.

Police did not identify the victim, but said the man lived nearby the busy roadway.

Around 9 a.m., the closed ramp and roadway were reopened, but morning commuters heading south faced backups that stretched to Frederick.
