Man Dead After Being Struck in Southeast D.C.

A man died after being struck by at least one vehicle in southeast D.C. Thursday evening, D.C. police confirmed.

Alabama Avenue SE was closed for hours between Webster Place and 18th Place after the incident about 7:50 p.m.

Walter Steven Leach, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, was in the roadway when a vehicle struck him. That vehicle remained at the scene.

It's unknown if he fell from another vehicle or was struck a vehicle that didn't remain at the scene. Police are investigating whether he was struck by several vehicles.

Leach, 63, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Details of the incident remain under investigation.
