Fatal Accident on the Leesburg Bypass

Philip Green Jr. of Winchester died on Wednesday after the vehicle he was driving struck another

Two cars were involved in a fatal car accident Wednesday afternoon on the Leesburg Bypass.

The crash happened between the South King Street entrance ramp and a Dulles Greenway entry ramp.

Philip Green Jr. of Winchester was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu westbound when the car crossed the grassy median and entered the eastbound lanes, striking a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, officials said.

Investigators said Green's Malibu flipped over after it struck the truck. Green, 27, died at the scene due to his injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 48-year-old man from Shepherdstown, W.Va., was severely injured and was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The bypass was completely reopened at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Leesburg Police are asking any witnesses to call the department as soon as possible.
