Fatal Accident on Interstate 95 in Lorton

Passenger killed after southbound car rolls over

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal single-car accident that happened on Interstate 95 Saturday morning.

VSP spokesperson Corinne Geller said that the accident happened shortly before 6 a.m. at the 164-mile marker. A Honda sedan was traveling south when it ran off the right side of the highway and overturned.

Geller said that 30-year-old Rashid K. Humphreys of Yonkers, N.Y., a passenger in the front seat, was thrown from the car and was taken to Potomac Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver, Thomas Smith of Woodbridge, and passenger Robert Brown of Fredericksburg, suffered minor injuries and were not transported.

Smith was charged by police with reckless driving. The investigation is ongoing.
