Faster Food: McDonald's Allows Mobile Ordering, Payment in DC Area

Faster food is coming to the D.C. area, thanks to the McDonald's mobile app.

Almost 60 locations in the metropolitan area allow you to order and pay with the app, and then pick up your food at the counter, drive-thru window or curbside. That will expand to more than 325 restaurants over the next several weeks.

Geofencing technology lets employees know when the customer is nearby so they can prepare the food freshly, McDonald's said. For more convenience, parking spaces are designated for curbside pickup for customers who don't want to wait in the drive-thru line.

The pilot program seeks feedback before McDonald's rolls out mobile ordering nationwide later this year.

Mobile ordering and pay was first available at 29 restaurants in Monterey and Salinas, California, and 51 restaurants in Spokane, Washington.

"We've already seen tremendous customer engagement with both mobile order and pay and curbside order pickup in Monterey and Salinas, California, and Spokane, Washington," Farhan Siddiqi, head of U.S. Digital, said in a statement. "This expansion is part of our broader commitment to building a seamless, more modern experience for our customers."
