Family's Dog Dies in Columbia House Fire

Howard County fire officials are working to determine what caused a fire the destroyed one family's home and killed their pet.

Crews arriving at the scene in the 6100 block of Forty Winks Way in Columbia, Md., at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday were greeted with heavy fire coming from the front of the home.

Three residents suffered only minor injuries, but unfortunately, the family's dog did not survive the fire.

The home will be declared uninhabitable once firefighters ensure the fire is fully extinguished.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

Neighbors will help the family with housing, authorities said.
