Family, Friends Say Goodbye to Man Killed Outside Bethesda Mall

Family and friends are mourning the death of a man who police say stepped in to help a woman who was threatened by a gunman outside the Westfield Montgomery Mall last Friday.

A visitation was held for Malcom Winffel at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland, on Wednesday. A funeral is scheduled for Thursday.

Winffel's family said he loved sports and his size and strength earned him the nickname "The Tank" in a recreational soccer team.

Winffel, who was 45 years old, left behind a wife and two children who are in high school.

Police said Winffel was shot and killed by 62-year-old Eulalio Tordil, who was apparently attempting to carjack a woman after fatally shooting his wife Thursday.

The woman and another man were also wounded.

Tordil allegedly fatally shot another woman a short while later while apparently attempting another carjacking at a Giant food store in Aspen Hill.
