Family Cat Dies in Elkridge House Fire

A family lost their pet cat and their home in a fire in Elkridge, Maryland, Friday.

Firefighters from three counties were called to a home in the 5600 block of Railroad Avenue just after noon. When they arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the back of the home.

The flames were quickly extinguished, and crews spent the 45 minutes opening up walls and ceilings to put out and fire that remained.

While no residents or firefighters were injured, a family cat died in the fire.

The home suffered extensive damage; fire officials expect the home to be deemed uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Three adults have been displaced.
